With a name derived from the Welsh town of Haverfordwest in Wales, UK, Haverford, PA is a town with an incredible breadth of history and an undeniable appeal that has attracted residents since the 1600s.
The land that encompasses Haverford was originally settled by Welsh Quakers and was used as farmland until the 1800s when mills began popping up along the Cobb’s Creek. Because the wares needed to be transported into Philadelphia, the Columbia Railroad was built, and thus the Main Line area that is so desirable today was created.
In 1857, the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased the Columbia and wealthy railroad families began purchasing farmland in Haverford to create their vast estates – estates that still impress today.
